Interlocked / Stripwound Metallic Hose 7127
Overview
Interlocked, also referred to as stripwound hoses can be designed for various specialised industrial applications. Unlike corrugated hoses, interlocked hoses are created by helically winding a preformed metal strip over a sizing mandrel and interlocking the adjacent edges. This method produces hoses that offer high flexibility, high crush resistance, excellent mechanical strength and temperature resistance.
Primary Applications
Ducting & Extraction
Effective in systems that need reliable air or gas flow.
Exhausts
Suitable for engine exhaust systems due to their high-temperature resistance and gas-tight properties.
Material Handling
Perfect for transporting bulk materials without leakage.
Protective Casings
Provides robust protection for cables and other sensitive components.
Hose liners
Liners for corrugated hose assemblies that protect against failures caused by high flow velocity. (see flow velocity chart )
Bend restrictors
Prevent overbending near end fittings of corrugated hose assemblies
Construction of Interlock/ Stripwound Hoses
The construction of interlock hoses involves wrapping a single metal strip around a mandrel to create a fully interlocked section. This design can be enhanced with a copper wire packing, which adds stiffness and gas tightness to the hose. The combination of these elements results in hoses that provide:
Material
Available in both Stainless Steel and Galvanised Steel
Flexibility
The interlocked structure allows for easy bending and manoeuvring.
High Crush Resistance
The robust design withstands significant external pressure.
Great Mechanical Strength
The hose maintains its integrity under high stress.
Smooth Bore
Ensures minimal friction and efficient flow of materials.
Temperature Resistance
These hoses can operate at temperatures up to +650°C, making them suitable for high-temperature environments such as exhaust systems and industrial furnaces.
Exhaust Hose: Specialised Industrial Applications
Construction
Typically unpacked and fully extended, though packing can be added to minimise leakage.
Materials
Commonly produced in 304 stainless steel, with other alloys available upon request.
Uses
Engine exhaust, vacuum and collection service, conveying, ventilating lines, and as protective casings.
Conveyor Hose: Specialist Industrial Applications
Both types of conveyor hoses are excellent for loading or unloading ships, containers, silos, and rail cars. They are also used for air intake for diesel superchargers, exhausting gases from ovens and furnaces, and boiler draft system expansion joints.
Standard Conveyor Hose
Unlined, medium-weight, fully packed interlocked construction, suitable for dry bulk materials.
Smooth Bore Conveyor Hose
Features an integral metal strip lining that provides a smooth bore, minimising impaction and reducing turbulence. Ideal for pneumatic transmission of flake or pelletised plastics, grain, coal dust, slag, and other dry granular materials.
Conclusion
Interlocked , Stripwound stainless steel hoses are an invaluable asset in industrial applications requiring robust, flexible solutions. Their construction and material properties make them suitable for a wide range of uses, from exhaust systems to material handling and protective casings. By choosing the right type of interlocked hose, industries can ensure efficient and reliable performance in even the most demanding environments.
